How to Train Your Pomeranian: Simple Steps for a Well-Behaved Pom
Hey everyone! If you’ve just brought a cute Pomeranian into your home, or if you’re planning to, you're probably thinking about training. Training your Pom isn't just about teaching them cool tricks; it's about helping them understand the rules of your house so they can be a happy, well-behaved part of your family.

Let’s look at some easy, fun ways to train your fluffy friend!
Why Training is Super Important
Training helps your Pom know what to do and what not to do. It makes things safer for them and less stressful for you. Plus, it’s a great way to bond with your pet. Pomeranians are smart and learn quickly, so they can really enjoy the training process!
Tools You’ll Need (& some suggested options)
- Treats: These are like little rewards for your Pom when they do something right. Try these.
- A Leash/Harness and Collar: For teaching them to walk nicely beside you. Here's a good one.
- A Clicker: This can help with training, by making a sound that tells your Pom they’re doing a great job. Check this option that comes with a treat pouch!
Basic Commands to Start With
1. Sit: This is one of the easiest commands. Hold a treat above your Pom's head and move it back slightly. As their head goes up to follow the treat, their bottom will naturally go down. When they sit, say "Sit" clearly, give them the treat, and show lots of love!
2. Stay: Once your Pom knows how to sit, teach them to stay. Ask them to sit, then open your hand in front of you and say "Stay." Take a few steps back. If they stay, come back and reward them with a treat. If not, it's okay—just try again!
3. Come: This teaches your Pom to come to you when called. Start in a quiet room without distractions. Say "Come" in a happy voice while holding a treat. When your Pom comes to you, give them the treat and lots of praise.
Tips for Successful Training
Be Patient: Training takes time. If you or your Pom gets frustrated, take a break and try again later. Always use a happy, friendly voice—training should be fun!
Keep Sessions Short: Poms are smart but they have short attention spans. Keep training sessions short and sweet, about 5 to 10 minutes each, so they don’t get bored or tired.
Be Consistent: Always use the same words for commands, and train in a similar way each time. This helps your Pom understand what you expect from them.
Use Positive Reinforcement: Always use treats and praise to reward your Pom. This shows them they’re doing what you like and encourages them to keep doing it.
